Back this summer, Dr. Deb Wiley and I had the pleasure of interviewing Onleilove Alston of Prophetic Whirlwind on Renewed radio.[1] At the time, she was planning a trip to Nigeria and was in the process of writing a book called, Prophetic Whirlwind: Uncovering the Black Biblical Destiny. She will join us again on Renewed on February 14th, 2018 to explore her groundbreaking work.
Recently, she blogged about her mission trip to Nigeria and I am compelled to share it with my readers. Onleilove is an African American with Nigerian ancestry. She and I have had several conversations about the faith and life of the massive Igbo tribe in Nigeria. Though I am still learning about them (and can’t wait for her book to launch), she made me aware that this tribe was hit the hardest in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. One in four African-Americans and about 65% of Jamaicans have Igbo ancestry.
There are many Sabbath and Torah keeping assemblies in Igboland in Nigeria. The pictures and videos of the people made my heart swell and my eyes drip tears. At one point on her journey, the elder that accompanied and drove her from place to place stopped at a particular bridge. Onleilove tells it best: “people were told once you were taken over this bridge you would never see this land again. At first I was 
sad learning of this and thinking about my maternal ancestors but then the Ruach Ha’kodesh (Holy Spirit) spoke to my spirit and said don’t be sad because though they said your ancestors would never return they did return through you!”
Can you imagine?! She is such a vision of restoration! Though Onleilove dubbed this bridge the “Bridge of No Return,” she indeed returned and crossed that bridge, hallelujah!
